Data Controls

Last updated July 27, 2026

This page is the practical companion to our Privacy Policy: it lays out, control by control, exactly what you can decide about your own data in DerVort, where each control lives, and what turning it on or off actually does. Nothing here is aspirational. Every control below is real and available in your account today, except where we say otherwise.

Model improvement

Where: in the web portal, Account → Privacy.

DerVort gets better at real, colloquial Yiddish by learning from real dictations. This single switch controls whether your dictations are used for that.

  • On (the default): your dictations, the audio, the text you received, and any corrections you made, may be used to improve DerVort's own Yiddish models. Never sold, never shared with other companies for their purposes, never shown to other customers.
  • Off: from the moment you turn it off, nothing new is used for training. Turning it off does not reach back and unwind training that already happened, models cannot un-learn a single example, but it stops any future use immediately.

This switch is about use for training only. It does not change whether your dictations are saved, that is part of the product and covered next.

Your history and recordings

Every dictation is saved to your history, the text and the audio, so the product works the way you expect. That is what lets you open History and read a dictation back, play the recording like a voice memo, copy it again, edit it, or re-run it in another mode. Your history is yours, kept for you, and never shown to other customers.

  • Archive or delete any entry, any time: in the web portal, open your history and archive a dictation to move it out of History. Archiving is reversible, you can restore it. To remove a dictation for good, delete it from the Archive: that removes both its text and its stored recording, and nothing is left behind.
  • Choose how long we keep it: in the Archive you can also set how long DerVort keeps your dictations, and whether to keep the audio recording at all or just the text.
  • Delete everything: deleting your account (below) removes all of your history and recordings at once.

Your dictionary

Your personal dictionary, the names, spellings, and terms you teach DerVort, is yours to add to and remove from at any time in the portal (My Dictionary). In a team account, the team may also keep a shared dictionary, which is visible to that team only.

Getting a copy of your data

You can ask us for a copy of everything DerVort holds about you, your profile, settings, personal dictionary, and the full text of your history. Email [email protected] and we will prepare it for you. We may verify your identity first, and we will respond within the time your local law requires.

Deleting your account

Where: in the web portal, Account → Your data → Delete account.

Deleting your account is permanent and removes everything tied to it: your dictation history and recordings, your personal dictionary, your settings, and your profile. Because it cannot be undone, it takes two steps and asks you to type DELETE to confirm. When you confirm, your recordings are removed from storage and your account and its data are deleted. Records we are legally required to keep, such as billing history, are retained for the period the law requires and then deleted. If you would rather we do it for you, email [email protected].

Team accounts

In a team account, an administrator manages seats and membership and can see aggregate usage counts. An administrator does not see the content of members' dictations, recordings, or personal settings. Your own controls above still apply to you: your history is yours, and your model-improvement switch is your own choice.

How your data is protected

Access to your data is enforced at the database itself, so one customer can never reach another customer's dictations, recordings, or settings. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Our own staff's access to customer content is restricted to what a support case requires, and is logged.

Sensitive and health data

People dictate sensitive things, sometimes including health information. We treat everything you dictate as confidential: stored only in your own account, never sold, never used for advertising, and tightly access-controlled. We are building DerVort to a standard suitable for sensitive information and are working toward the formal agreements, including Business Associate Agreements, that regulated organizations such as healthcare providers require. If your organization needs such an agreement in place before using DerVort with protected health information, contact us and we will work with you.
